Description: Punta Arenas is a city located in the southernmost part of Chile, it is the most populated, cosmopolitan city, and the capital of the Magallanes Region – Chilean Patagonia. Dozens of cruises and fishing boats sail and dock here, exploring the end of the world in search of beauty and abundance. Punta Arenas is famous as it was the main port for navigation between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans before the Panama Canal opened (1914). World War I was the main cause of European migration to South America, but it was the gold rush that motivated many Croatians, Spaniards, English, and Germans to come to these cold lands.
We will start our city tour by visiting the main square, which is named after Governor BenjamÃn Muñoz Gamero. We then continue to the Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint where we will have a panoramic view of the city and surroundings. After this beautiful panorama, we will visit the municipal cemetery considered the most beautiful in Chile and the fifth most beautiful in the world. Then we will go to greet the iconic Monument to the Shepherd, a must-stop to photograph this important character of Patagonia. After photographing and learning a bit of history, we will head to the Nao Victoria site museum where you can see historic ships at full scale. To end our city tour, we will stop at the city’s waterfront where we will appreciate the Strait of Magellan next to the Goleta Ancud monument.
